This hands-on workshop introduces participants to the cyanotype process, an early photographic printing method that uses light and chemistry to create striking blue images. Designed for beginners, the workshop encourages creative exploration through daily projects that can evolve throughout your time at Haystack. We will begin by learning to create cyanotypes from both digital negatives and physical objects, covering the fundamentals of coating, exposing, and developing prints. From there, participants will explore techniques such as toning, the wet cyanotype method, double exposure, and printing on alternative materials. There will be opportunities to embellish prints with beads, metal leaf, or embroidery thread, allowing each participant to personalize their work. Rooted in experimentation and process, this course invites students to approach cyanotyping with curiosity and openness. By the end of the week, participants will leave with a foundational understanding of cyanotype printing and a collection of unique, personally meaningful works. Exclusive for beginners.

Funding for Jaida Grey Eagle’s teaching position is provided by the Haystack Equity Fund for Visiting Artists/Faculty in honor of Paul Sacaridiz.
