This summer Haystack announced the Mary Beasom Bishop 2017 Challenge — initiated by four women on the school’s Board of Trustees. The $20,000 challenge was intended to help us reach a record goal of $300,000 for the Haystack annual fund at a time when support for the arts is more important than ever.

The Mary Beasom Bishop 2017 Challenge invited support for Haystack with a new — or increased — gift to the 2017 annual fund. Donations made through October 31, 2017 (the end of our fiscal year), were matched dollar for dollar, up to $20,000.

We thought it fitting that with women leading this effort, we would take the opportunity to honor the school’s founder, Mary Beasom Bishop. It was her vision, pioneering spirit, and generous patronage that allowed a radical idea, such as establishing a craft school in rural Maine in 1950, to take root and grow into the vital institution that Haystack has become.

Our sincere appreciation to everyone who gave to the Haystack annual fund this year – thanks to your support, we have exceeded our annual fund giving goal of $300,000.

Thank you for your support!

Annual AppealDonations made to Haystack’s annual fund support the school’s annual operating budget. These funds keep attendance fees affordable, and help ensure that Haystack maintains its leadership role in craft education.
