Fall has arrived at Haystack and there is a chill in the air that reminds us a transition is taking place, both in terms of completing another season of programming and my own arrival as the new director of the school.
As I write this letter I am reminded of the first time I came to Haystack as a student over twenty-five years ago. Decades later, while teaching in that same studio, I had the privilege of a different, though no less powerful, perspective. I am now charged with the extraordinary opportunity to lead the school into its next chapter and this is one of the most meaningful undertakings I can imagine.
Spending time at Haystack opens up possibilities that we never knew existed. It has to do with a campus that floats above the forest floor and the remarkable sense of community that forms among people who come here to
discover something by spending long, uninterrupted days in the studio. At the core, Haystack has always been a place where many hands come together to make extraordinary things happen.
It’s in this spirit that we come to you with our annual appeal. Your tax deductible contribution to the annual fund ensures that we can re-invest in our award-winning campus, develop and expand dynamic programs (like the fab lab, programs for veterans, workshops for teens, and our new residency program), attract world class faculty and visiting artists and offer full scholarship support to one-quarter of our students. None of this would be possible without your generous support.
So please grab a pen, pick up the phone, or visit our website—you will be investing in the groundbreaking work we have done and helping to imagine the possibilities that lie ahead for future generations.
With warm regards,
Paul Sacaridiz, Director
