Programs at Haystack

SUMMER WORKSHOPS

Haystack’s core summer workshops include one- and two-week session in blacksmithing, ceramics, fiber, glass, graphics, metals, and wood. Workshops are open to adults 18-years or older of all skill levels—from beginners to advanced professionals.

SUMMER CONFERENCE

Since 2007, Haystack has organized a summer conference to look at craft in a broader context and supports our belief in creating an environment that values reflective thinking within an inclusive and creative community.

ONLINE PROGRAMS

Haystack’s online programs include artist talks, workshops, demonstrations, and more. These programs help us to meet our mission of connecting people through craft in new and exciting ways. Online programs will resume again in early 2022.

OPEN STUDIO RESIDENCY

Haystack’s two-week Open Studio Residency kicks off our summer season. The residency fosters a dynamic exchange of ideas among peers and provides two weeks of studio time and an opportunity to work in a community of makers. Those selected attend for free.

VISITING ARTISTS

Haystack’s Visiting Artist Program extends our commitment to providing time and space for the development of new ideas in a variety of creative disciplines. Visiting artists augment summer workshop sessions with informal activities

COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

Haystack’s community programs promote the arts and contribute to the creative lives of Maine residents through local, regional, and statewide programming.

CAMPUS & Housing

The combination of unmatched natural setting, a unique campus designed by award-winning architect Edward Larrabee Barnes, and the focused energy of the community provides an environment that supports a serious exploration of craft, materials, and ideas.
