Developing new ideas and new ways of seeing are central to Haystack’s mission. When you take a workshop at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, you will be able to work in the studios day and night, you will have time to experiment and discover, and be a part of an intensive and supportive community of learners.
Check out this video showing Dennis Carter, founder and owner of the Deer Isle Hostel, which is a nearby neighbor to the school's campus. He uses a 2-pound hammer to cut a 26,000 pound block of Deer Isle granite into two equal parts. When finished, the resulting smaller blocks will be used to make the foundation of a workshop that he is building at the Hostel.
