Haystack Mountain School of Crafts
2010 New Works_fiber

New Works was developed as a major program offering in 1996, seeking to promote significant opportunities for distinguished artists (all former participants in Haystack's program), to create new work and exchange ideas with peers in Haystack's celebrated studio setting. Free from the responsibility of teaching, New Works offers these artists time themselves to retreat and immerse fully in their work and ideas. This program is uniquely suited to the school's scale and open format, which foster ideal conditions for retreats of this scope. New Works is made available subject to foundation funding, and is often offered in alternate years between Haystack conferences and/or symposia.

The 2010 New Works included open studios with technicians to assist, along with an optional workshop in writing, led by poet Dawn Potter, and performance workshops led by Charles Garoian. New Works was held this year from September 22-26. The program is supported by a grant from The Windgate Foundation.

All of the studios were alive with activity during the 2010 New Works session for Haystack faculty, who return for retreat and to focus on their own work.
